Award Presentation Remarks from Linda Peacock-Landrum, Director of Career Services - Monday, February 20, 2017:

Since 2007, Career Services at UW-Green Bay has recognized an employer partner, which shows exceptional commitment evidenced by support and opportunities for our students and graduates.  This employer partner also demonstrates comprehensive support for the mission of Career Services.  Today, we recognize our valued partner, Baker Tilly as our Recruitment Partner of the Year for 2016.

Baker Tilly joins past recipients that include Associated Bank, ACUITY, Schneider, Humana, Schreiber Foods, Glen Tilot with Brown County Human Services, the Arthritis Foundation-Northeast District, Schenck and Integrys/ WEC Energy Group.

As Director of Career Services at UW-Green Bay for the past 19 years, I have been fortunate to work with many outstanding organizations and their professionals in the Green Bay community and the Northeast Wisconsin region. Early in my tenure in 1997, I met with professionals from a regional accounting firm, then Shumacher Romensko during their on-campus visit to interview students.  Shumacher Romensko would later merge with Virchow Krause in 1999, and in 2003 became Baker Tilly.  One very fond memory I have from my early years is meeting with an accounting student for a mock interview.  This accounting student was preparing for his on-campus interviews.  He graduated in December 1998 and was hired by Shumacher Romensko where he began his accounting career.  Today, that accounting graduate, Andy Dilling is now a Partner with Baker Tilly. Our records indicate that at least 36 recent graduates have begun their accounting careers with Baker Tilly and 28 students have served as interns with the organization.  Currently 15 alumni work at Baker Tilly and 2 students are interns this spring. Baker Tilly has engaged with our campus and our students in countless ways.  In 2005, the organization hosted our staff and Accounting faculty members for a site visit to meet with their staff to learn more about their operations, but also gave us an opportunity to meet with our alumni in the workplace.  Our partnership continued to grow with their consistent presence at our jobs fairs and their annual interviews on-campus for the past 17 years.  Baker Tilly has also been a 4-time job fair sponsor, a former PRO sponsor and a 2-year Sponsor of Business Week with the Cofrin School of Business.   The organization has hosted several student events and receptions on campus, as well as frequent meetings with our staff and accounting faculty over the years to maintain our strong partnership.

In addition to these recruitment and sponsorship efforts, UW-Green Bay has benefited from the engagement and dedication of our alumni who work at Baker Tilly.  These alumni return to campus to speak to classes, make presentations to student organizations and attend events such as today’s Dine Like a Professional Etiquette Lunch to support and engage our students.  Numerous alumni began their career in accounting with Baker Tilly and are still dedicated professionals in the field today.  The tradition continues in 2016 with three new graduates, Matt Wettstein, Brittany Behrens and Ross Kuepers, becoming associates at Baker Tilly.  I have no doubt there are countless other ways that UW-Green Bay and Baker Tilly are engaged, but these are only the examples that I can provide today.

Our office and our campus both are truly fortunate to have a partnership with Baker Tilly.  We look forward to many more engaging years in the future.  Thank you to all the representatives who are here today and to those who could not join us that have been instrumental in helping us to recognize Baker Tilly as our Recruitment Partner of the Year for 2016. Would those in attendance please come forward?  They include:  Andy Dilling, 1998 alumnus; Tori Farmer, 2011 alumna; Matthew Wettstein, 2016 alumnus; Adam Willems, 2015 alumnus; Tara Tomter and Tanya Brake – both valued recruitment contacts.
