“It’s one of the most important choral orchestral works… This is a unique opportunity for the students at UW-Green Bay, as well as the community ensemble, to come together and perform a work that requires the services of not only the singers and soloists but also an orchestra. You need a big room to do this, so it’s also an opportunity to take advantage of the strengths of the Weidner Center.” — Prof. Randall Meder, who on Sunday night (Dec. 7) will conduct music from George Frideric Handel’s “Messiah,” as performed by the UW-Green Bay Chorale, the Concert Choir and the Green Bay Symphony Choir with Chamber Orchestra. |

Season’s greetings Someone with a whimsical sense of humor (an art student, perhaps?) got out during Sunday night’s snowfall and placed this cheery snowperson at a window just outside a highly trafficked corridor at UW-Green Bay. The all-natural creation — with pine cones for hair and eyes, and sticks for arms — brightened the scene from a sunken garden near the Cofrin Library. ![]() |

Both Gov. Jim Doyle and First Lady Jessica Doyle are fans of Phuture Phoenix. The governor has said he has modeled some of his statewide educational initiates on the premise and promise of the award-winning pre-college program at UW-Green Bay, which encourages children as young as fifth grade to aspire to higher education. When the call went out for state agencies and programs to contribute holiday ornaments, the Phuture Phoenix theme was a natural. Thousands of people, including busloads of tour groups, visit the governor’s residence each December. |
