pools, terrific schools: The secret is the people If you truly love the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, youre going to identify with Tod Kowalczyk, our new mens basketball coach. He shares your passion. That was evident when we called to offer the job. Chancellor, he said, You cant know how much this means to me. Green Bay is the one place, throughout my coaching career, Ive never stopped dreaming about. I am so proud to have the opportunity to serve and help represent this University. He repeated those sentiments at his introductory press conference a few hours later. It was exactly what I wanted to hear, exactly what our campus and community wanted to hear. A newcomer just trying to say the right things? Not at all. Tods passion and sincerity were genuine. His enthusiasm for Green Bay was unmistakable. That was clear to the hundreds of people who welcomed him to campus, to Athletics Director Ken Bothof and his staff and Phoenix student-athletes, to Prof. Donna Ritch and members of the search and screen committee, and to the mentors and professional colleagues who provided such heartfelt recommendations. To me, Tods words echoed variations Ive been hearing for some time now. From candidates for academic positions, from students who feel theyre enjoying a unique experience, from alumni or community members engaged in this initiative or that program, theres recognition that UWGB is something special. |
