| Visitors,
friends liked what they saw in our campus, community At the end of October I'll have one year down as UW-Green Bay chancellor. One year down... and an up feeling to last a good, long while. My ongoing introduction, and your welcome, to Green Bay could not have had a more perfect cap than the events of our recent Inauguration Week. From the kickoff Phoenix Phacts Challenge through the community-service activities, the academic open house, the student dance and the formal installation itself... Inauguration had a feel-good energy from start to finish. It was a celebration of the institution (UW-Green Bay) and an institution (the chancellorship) and not overly focused on just a single member of the team (me). It was no-frills, certainly, but first-rate. As the planning committee determined at the outset, the academic tradition of inauguration gift-wrapped for UW-Green Bay a timely chance to highlight our heritage and history, academic excellence, and the values we share. We needed to express the confidence we have in our ability to take an already vibrant institution and, together, make an even better tomorrow. We needed to articulate our commitment to the community, our commitment to inviting this dynamic region to take greater ownership in its own University of Wisconsin. |
