Chancellor
pays tribute to Killorans
At the annual Faculty and Staff Convocation, Chancellor Bruce Shepard
lauded longtime UW-Green Bay friends and supporters Bernie and Sally Killoran.
The Chancellor expressed the campus community’s
gratitude to the Killorans for their support of the University over the
years. He also congratulated them on their 50th wedding anniversary.
The Killorans, retired from K-12 teaching, have supported
scholarships for UW-Green Bay students and recently made a commitment
to begin an endowed scholarship fund.
This summer, they decided to give each other a special
50th wedding anniversary gift: Rather than make the endowed scholarship
commitment over a period of years, they made an immediate endowment gift
so the scholarships could start flowing this fall.Of the Killorans’
latest gift, Chancellor Shepard said, “A gift they were giving each
other. A very special gift for us.”
UW-Green Bay frosh come from near, far and very far
For some freshmen enrolling at UW-Green Bay for the 2006 fall semester,
home is just down the road. For others, it’s on another continent.
About 22 percent of the class graduated from high schools in Brown County.
Green Bay Preble will send the largest contingent with 42 graduates.
The top 10 high schools represented in the class are Preble, Bay Port,
Green Bay West, Green Bay East, Green Bay Southwest, De Pere, Pulaski,
Ashwaubenon, Luxemburg-Casco and (tied for 10th) Oconto Falls and Appleton
East.
Freshmen come from 62 of Wisconsin’s 72 counties
and from as far away as Jordan, Germany and Israel. With about 1,030 students,
this fall’s freshman class is expected to be the largest in UW-Green
Bay history.
