Soldiers
say thanks for campus care packages
Soldiers serving in Iraq said “thanks” to the faculty, staff
and students who contributed to care packages for the troops during Veterans
Appreciation activities in November. Snacks, reading materials and personal
items were shipped to military personnel serving overseas along with a
campus flag so the Northeastern Wisconsin contingent could show its campus
pride. Former UW-Green Bay student Craig Destree (standing, in photo)
displays the UW-Green Bay flag in his bunk area, but because of the cramped
quarters, chose to photograph it instead with his vehicle and fellow Wisconsinite
Ryan Fulcer. To read the service members’ letters of appreciation
for the gifts, many of which they shared with Iraqi children, visit www.uwgb.edu/univcomm/news/page/photo.htm.
Last
hurrahs at the Phoenix Sports Center
These young fans, leading cheers for their respective teams at last month’s
Phoenix/Panthers game at the Phoenix Sports Center, will have a new venue
next season when the 4,000-seat Kress Center opens. UW-Green Bay and the
women’s basketball program are planning a series of events to commemorate
the final year at the old PSC. Alumni games and gatherings, special ceremonies
and other surprises are in store, culminating with the regular season
finale on Saturday, Feb. 24 vs. Butler. The Phoenix women, 17-3 and 24th
in the AP poll, are all but guaranteed one additional PSC game (and likely
more) when the Horizon quarterfinals tip off March 7.

was, and is, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to create

and similarly high-profile alumni will share their stories in the February
issue of Inside UW-Green Bay magazine.
