She’s No. 1, She’s No. 25,000It was a happy day at commencement last month for Green Bay, its public university and the school’s 25,000th graduate. Jennifer Schanen (right) of Port Washington received her bachelor’s degree with summa cum laude honors. Her major was social work with minors in Spanish and theatre (dance). Greeting her for the special moment was longtime local educator Nancy Deprey (left), who presented a gift basket on behalf of the Alumni Association. On June 1, 1970 Deprey, then Nancy Ably and first in line by virtue of alphabetical order, received UW-Green Bay’s first diploma. The University is using the 25,000 milestone to focus attention on its 40-year track record of students and graduates making a difference. A special newspaper section (www.uwgb.edu/25000/) highlights alumni success stories along with memorable moments from campus history. |
