Prominent Green Bay teacher will 'reside' at UW-Green Bay
Helen Schaal, an educator with over 20 years experience as a classroom teacher, and the current president of the Green Bay Education Association teachers organization, will be the new 'teacher in residence' at UW-Green Bay. She is the fourth K-12 teacher asked to serve in the position, created by the Institute for Learning Partnership to bring additional perspective to the faculty, and to help bridge the gap between practice and theory for undergrduate education students. Schaal was selected from a large pool of applicants. She will serve in the position for two academic years.

UW-Green Bay students will show their stuff in April 17 symposium
What makes UW-Green Bay special? For one, the fact undergraduates pursue hands-on projects and advanced research that at other schools is often available only to graduate students. The University's first-ever Academic Excellence Symposium will highlight this aspect of the Green Bay experience on Wednesday, April 17. From 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the University Union, star students will take part in an "academic fair" and share info on internships, honors projects, independent studies, distinction-in-the-major projects and student research. You're welcome to attend.

Spotlight still shines on Mary Ann Cofrin Hall,
Wisconsin Public Service, solar-electric project

It's a partnership worth celebrating! Wisconsin Public Service Coporation was UW-Green Bay's first nominee for the new UW Partnership Award recently inaugurated by the Board of Regents. WPS receives its award April 4 during a UW System 30th anniversary celebration in Madison. Chancellor Bruce Shepard said WPS was selected for its collaborative effort in installing cutting-edge solar electric technology in the new Mary Ann Cofrin Hall, and other cooperative projects over the years, including an annual Solar Olympics competition for high school students, and various grants for faculty and student research. Each UW campus named a "partner" to receive an award.

Parallel programs for younger children — the Pre-Discovery and Summer Discovery enrichment classes — begin later in the summer. And Phoenix Athletics offers a wide range of camps. Call (920) 465-2267.

"Each year we're getting close. Within a few years we should get there. . . this program's getting stronger, and one day we're going to knock the door down and get a win."
