Holiday
get-togethers, year-end thanks, and New Year's predictions Greetings! My family and I extend best wishes to you as the holidays approach. ’Tis the season for festive gatherings, fond reminiscence of days past, thank-yous to those who enrich our lives, and predictions and resolutions for the year to come. I’ll follow that outline and begin this letter with mention of “festive gatherings,” plentiful this month at UW-Green Bay. The annual reception and service awards program for staff and faculty is the afternoon of Friday the 13th, which as luck would have it, is the final day of classes and an ideal time to pause, congratulate valued co-workers, and celebrate. Two days later is the employee open house at the residence. I’m aware there’s a big football game that Sunday — I grew up not far from the 49ers’ old Kezar Stadium and these days back the Pack — so rest assured those colleagues who want to follow the score will be able to do so while also enjoying a relaxing holiday get-together. It is only one of several such gatherings Cyndie and I will enjoy hosting for various visitors and friends of the University. The December calendar is packed with special events. Commencement, on Saturday the 21st, caps it all. Coming as it always does a few days before Christmas, with joyous graduates and their families and friends packing the Weidner Center and the stage set with green banners and red poinsettias, the mid-year ceremony has a distinct holiday feel. |

 Mid-year commencement on Dec. 21 will be a celebratory event with a special surprise (for graduate No. 20,000). Last year's ceremony was my first as UW-Green Bay chancellor. Cyndie helped make sure I was ready. |
