Chancellor’s Note:
I give up. I have struggled for words, at times, to describe my gratitude and joy since our community fundraising campaign reached the “green-light level” to proceed with remodeling and expansion of the old Phoenix Sports Center. That’s why, wit
h this newsletter, I will just let our students do the talking. They are the ones who will most benefit, make the largest financial contribution (through student fees), and be most delighted when the new, $32.5-million Kress Events Center opens in fall 2007. We continue to seek pledges to make the new facility all it needs to be. Having passed the $7.5 million mark in private gifts, however, we have secured the funding necessary to break ground, and we are in sight of our final goal. That’s absolutely fantastic, terrific... and...

Turn the page for comments from current UW-Green Bay students. All are talking about the new sports and events center, which has a green light for groundbreaking this year with completion by 2007. In the architect’s concept sketch, above, the current Phoenix Sports Center is denoted by the dark-roof sections at top center. The planned additions are marked by light-colored roofing. The drive to improve student-life facilities is phase one of a larger campaign that will also include academic enhancements.
