Watch for ‘Inside,’ click for Annual Report
Arriving in reader mailboxes by mid-month will be the winter issue of “Inside UW-Green Bay,” the University/alumni magazine. Look for articles celebrating the successful first phase of the $25 million Campaign for UW-Green Bay, gifts by friends including the Garot, Dorschel and Green families, and academic enhancements already paying dividends for faculty, staff and students. Another publication, this one on the Web, also celebrates the achievements of the UW-Green Bay community. The University’s 2004-05 Annual Report to the UW System includes easy-to-read summaries as well as a section on challenges and priorities for the coming years. Making connections, one phone call at a time
February is a big month for reaching out to UW-Green Bay alumni.
Student callers for the Alumni Phone-a-thon will be trying to reach 4,500 graduates in Business Administration and Accounting, by far the largest constituency group among the University’s approximately 23,000 alumni.

“We have great graduates doing great things,” says Shane Kohl, director of annual giving for University Advancement. “This is one way we keep in touch.”
Calling began in September. On the fundraising side, the participation rate and dollars raised are both up better than 30 percent from last year. So far, majors with the highest participation include science and environmental change, Extended Degree (now Adult Degree Programs), nursing and the former human adaptability concentration.

College just wasn’t something we ever talked about at home, but teachers and other caring people (gave me encouragement). That is exactly the reason I wanted to be a Phuture Phoenix Phellow. I was that kid, once, and now I can be one of those caring people to these students.”

Rod and Gun Club backs UW-Green Bay science scholarships
UW-Green Bay’s top science and math students were honored last week at a reception for winners of the 2005-06 Natural and Applied Sciences scholarships. Awards from $500 to $1,100 were made to 16 students. Michelle Brantmeier, winner of the Moose Lodge Rod and Gun Club Scholarship, is shown here with club officers Rod Truttman, left, and Jim Schenker at the reception. Brantmeier, of Green Bay, is completing a major in environmental science and biology and a minor in earth science while focusing her research on wildlife habitat. A seven-member committee of NAS faculty selected the recipients. Prof. Steven Meyer, chair of the selection committee, said competition for the scholarships was stronger than ever.

Bushes join soccer, hoops stars in Phoenix Hall of Fame
Tickets are available for the 2006 Phoenix Athletics Hall of Fame induction banquet taking place Friday evening, Feb. 10, in the Phoenix Room of the University Union.
UW-Green Bay “super fans” Carol and Bob Bush join basketball standouts Dean Vander Plas and Donna Gunville, and former soccer all-America Tim Dunne as this year’s inductees. Vander Plas was a local favorite who anchored the first Division I tournament team in 1991. Gunville sparked the women’s successful transition to major-college competition in the late ‘80s. Dunne was a talented defender for winning teams in the early ‘90s.
