Task
force looks at future of Weidner, other venues
A task force of community leaders is working to develop recommendations
for the long-term future of the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts
and other performance venues in Northeastern Wisconsin.
University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Chancellor Bruce
Shepard and Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce President Paul Jadin appointed
the task force to address challenges facing performing arts venues locally
and across the country.
“We have asked the task force to be creative
and innovative as it considers possibilities for the long run,”
Shepard said.
Members of the task force are:
— Dan Ariens (co-chair), president, Ariens Company;
— Paul Jadin (co-chair), president, Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce;
— Dudley Birder, founder/director, Dudley Birder Chorale, St. Norbert
College;
— Bob Bush, chairman emeritus, Schreiber Foods, Inc.;
— Susan Finco, president, Leonard & Finco Public Relations;
— Carl Kuehne, CEO, American Foods Group;
— Bruce Shepard, chancellor, UW-Green Bay;
— Glen Slaats, executive director, Northeastern Wisconsin Arts Council;
— Ken Wachter, president, PMI;
— Jason Wied, corporate counsel, Green Bay Packers.
Weidner Center Presents to build on programming foundation
Weidner Center Presents, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, will partner with
the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to provide future programming at
the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts.
As the Center goes through a programming transition,
Weidner Center Presents will work to continue to attract nationally recognized
performers. This programming will build on a foundation of campus and
community fine arts performances.
Weidner Center Presents has been an important partner
for the Weidner Center since it opened in 1993, helping to bring top-flight
performing artists to Northeastern Wisconsin audiences.

Weidner attracts top talent in January
An impressive array of talent — from young local musicians to
Grammy and Emmy award-nominated dancers — will perform on the Weidner
Center stage this month.
UW-Green Bay’s 36th Annual Jazz Fest on Saturday, Jan. 21 will culminate
with a concert at 7:30 p.m. at the Weidner Center. The concert will feature
international guest artists, the UW-Green Bay Jazz and Vocal Jazz Ensembles
and outstanding jazz groups from area high schools.
The trio Nothing But Swing will travel to Green Bay from Slovakia to participate
in this year’s Jazz Fest. Trombonist, composer and arranger Nathan
Tanouye will be the guest artist when the UW-Green Bay Jazz Ensemble introduces
compositions by jazz pianist and composer Russ Freeman.
The Bellin Health Lifelines speaker series continues Tuesday, Jan. 17 when
Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Anna Quindlen speaks at the
Weidner Center. The popular series brings distinguished and motivating speakers
to Green Bay audiences.
Also coming to the Weidner this month is the American Indian Dance Theatre,
the first Native American performing arts group to receive Grammy and Emmy
Award nominations. The group performs Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
