Greetings from Bruce Shepard, and UW-Green Bay! This issue marks the debut of “Chancellor’s FYI,” a periodic publication for friends and family of UWGB. It is part calendar, part news roundup, and part first-person letter from me to you. Now, I’ve been warned I might want to be careful about promising a monthly or even bimonthly column — that I shouldn’t underestimate the time it takes to compose a letter and the discipline to meet the deadline — but I am optimistic. For one thing, I have always regarded writing as more treat than chore, more fun than formality. Second, I will have a wealth of material with the many noteworthy triumphs (and challenges) that make UWGB such an exciting place. Finally, I recognize that effective communication is among my most important duties. I look forward to using “Chancellor’s FYI” as a way to reach out to employees, community members and alumni. There will be times when I lend this column to other members of our University family and they’ll use this space to share their own insight into a particular issue or opportunity. Beyond that, however, I want you to know that I truly intend Chancellor’s FYI to be For Your Information, from the Chancellor. I promise to use jargon, budget-speak and voluminous detail only sparingly, only when it is absolutely critical to making a larger point. I promise, then, to communicate in clear terms regarding what matters most: what we’re doing to ensure a quality public university for Green Bay and Wisconsin. |

What do they pack in all those boxes? It looks as though I'm struggling to maintain my grip as I lend a hand during freshman move-in days during one of my first campus visits last August. Actually, the experience was great fun. Meeting with students and parents has been a priority for me since day one. |
