| Contrary to popular mythology, paper manufacturing
remains strong – the large traditional manufacturers are making key
capital investments to stay competitive on a worldwide stage. However, they
remain strong because they must relentlessly substitute capital and brain-power
driven innovation for labor. The major action is also now found in “high-tech
paper” – paper converting, paper-based advanced consumer products,
and non-wovens. UWGB is, already, a key player in these initiatives. Other changes include a growing health care industry, rapidly expanding services sector, growing impact of minority-owned businesses, and, less positively, loss of local ownership of national and international corporations. |
