REMARKS
AND ESSAYS:
Legislators pulled
together for UWGB
As chancellor of Green Bay's University of Wisconsin, I want to publicly thank
state legislators for their commitment to our plans to upgrade the Phoenix Sports
Center. This badly needed project will pay great dividends for our students
and our NCAA Division I athletics program.
Assembly Speaker John Gard, Joint Finance Committee co-chair
Dean Kaufert and Sen. Dave Hansen displayed tremendous leadership in persuading
the committee to commit the state to the sports and events center project. The
state commitment will complement support from our students and community donors.
The actions of these leaders are consistent with what we
have found time and again from our region's legislative contingent.
Sen. Robert Cowles provides key support as a member of the
State Building Commission. We know we also can count on Rep. Judy Krawczyk,
Rep. Phil Montgomery, Rep. Frank Lasee, Rep. Becky Weber, Rep. Karl Van Roy
and Sen. Alan Lasee to do what's right for Northeastern Wisconsin.
The commitment to the Phoenix Sports Center project is a
perfect example of legislators pulling together across geographic and political
boundaries.
Their foresight will benefit our campus and community for
years to come.
