Process and Timeline

Process

Following a national search and an intensive screening process, the committee is expected to recommend a list of candidates as finalists for consideration by the UW System President and a Special Board of Regents committee, chaired by Regent Tim Higgins of Appleton. Other members of the committee include Regent Mark Bradley of Wausau, Regent Janice Mueller of Madison, and Regent Chuck Pruitt of Milwaukee.

After a series of public presentations and personal interviews, the UW System President and the Special Regents Committee will recommend one individual to the full board, which must approve the appointment.

December 2013

  • Chancellor Harden announced his intention to retire — Dec. 18, 2013

    Wednesday, December 18, 2013 Chancellor Tom Harden informed colleagues, friends and members of the campus community he intends to conclude his tenure as University of Wisconsin-Green Bay chancellor in August 2014.

January 2014

  • UW-Green Bay Chancellor Search Committee named — Jan. 22, 2014

    University of Wisconsin System Interim President Richard J. Telfer appointed a 23-member Search and Screen Committee to help identify a successor to UW-Green Bay Chancellor Tom Harden. Telfer appointed 12 UW-Green Bay faculty members, two academic staff members, two classified staff members and two students. They will be joined by two administrators and three community representatives. Dr. Cheryl Grosso, from UW-Green Bay’s Music Department, will chair the committee.
  • First Search Committee meeting — Jan. 24, 2014

    The campus search committee will convene for the first time at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 24, at UW-Green Bay. At that meeting, Telfer will officially charge the committee with its mission, review procedures and begin the national search.
  • Consultant visits campus

    Consultant will visit campus to establish institutional profile and desired chancellor characteristics.
  • UW-Green Bay Campus Listening Sessions — Jan. 28-30, 2014

    • Tues., Jan. 28, 2014 at 12:30 p.m.
    • Wed., Jan. 29, 2014 at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
    • Thurs., Jan. 30, 2014 at 3:30 p.m.
  • Finalize Position Description, review Ad and Institutional Profile

February 2014

  • Off-campus Listening Sessions — Feb. 4 and 6, 2014

    • Tues., Feb. 4, 2014 at noon in the Brown County Central Library, 515 Pine St.
    • Thurs., Feb. 6, 2014 at 5:30 p.m. in room 121 of the Neville Public Museum of Brown County, 210 Museum Place
  • Documentation and recruiting

    Search and Screen Committee develops documentation for recruiting and evaluation purposes and begins recruiting process.

March 2014

  • Applicant review

    Search and Screen Committee continues recruiting activities and begins review of applicant files.
  • Application deadline — March 28, 2014

    For optimal consideration, materials should be submitted no later than Friday, March 28.

April 2014

  • Semi-finalists selected

    Semi-finalists recommended early April 2014.
  • Airport interviews, determine finalists

    Conduct airport interviews with semi-finalists in late April 2014.
  • Reference checks

    Reference checks commence.

May 2014

  • On-campus Interviews with finalists

    Finalists will be selected in early May with on-campus interviews expected to be completed by May 16, 2014. Late May all finalists will be interviewed by UW System Administrators and Regents.

  • Open Forum with finalists

    An hour-long open forum will be held for each of the finalists. All will be held in Fort Howard Hall at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on campus, 2420 Nicolet Drive, Green Bay, WI 54311-7001. Read the press release for details.
