Building the Campus

Additions will re-shape campus life
Four major construction projects during 2006-07 will combine to usher in a new era for campus life at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. In various stages of completion or planning, the projects together put a new face on an already attractive physical plant:
• The $33.5 million expansion, renovation and transformation of the old Phoenix Sports Center, now the new Kress Events Center (completion in October 2007);
• The $6.2 million expansion and renovation of the University Union (completion by summer 2008);
• A million-dollar facelift for the Student Services Building to provide a more user-friendly experience and student/visitor-oriented “front door” (completion by January 2008)
• A $6.7 million project to remodel Rose Hall and Wood Hall to provide space for growth in academic programs and free up Cofrin Library space for much-needed library services and research and study areas (in planning stages).
      Combined, the projects total nearly $50 million in new facilities for campus made possible by state/student/partnership. Taxpayer-supported borrowing will account for only about $15 million of the total, with student fees, local philanthropy and revenue from operations providing the major share. A sketch of each project follows.
