'Military Friendly'
In August 2009, UW-Green Bay learned it had received a ‘military friendly’ rating from the national magazine, G.I. Jobs. The rating recognized UW-Green Bay’s success on a number of fronts, over a number of years, primarily under the leadership of Chancellor Harden’s predecessors, Bruce Shepard and interim chancellor David Ward:
- UW-Green Bay has recently created a dedicated new position, Financial Aid Adviser/Veteran’s Services Coordinator;
- The annual Veterans Day reception in November has grown into a major campus and community event;
- The military “care packages” effort, with items donated by students, and employees, continued to expand and bring volunteers together from all around the institution;
- Students arranged an April 2009 show at the Weidner Center — free to the public — by the Air Force Concert Band;
- One of our professors, a specialist in GIS, contributed greatly to the success of the recent LZ Lambeau event in Green Bay; he designed and produced the parking-lot size, walkable map of Vietnam that served as a focal point and gathering spot for Vietnam veterans attending the reunion.
