I didn’t know what to expect when we started out this DCON weekend extravaganza. It certainly didn’t start out that great with car number two taking the wrong exit and getting lost in Milwaukee, but it began looking up when the trusty GPS got us to our hotel. When we arrived we had just enough time to put our bags in our rooms before we were rushed into the first meeting where nominations were being held for the various board positions. After that, we were left to mingle with the other clubs and made Mardi Gra themed masks.
For the majority of day two we were busy in caucuses, doing a service project, and listening to various speakers, we almost didn’t have time for our afternoon naps. At lunch and dinner there were many awards given out, mostly to the over achieving club of UW-Oshkosh. The Key-note speaker had a lot of interesting things to say about how Circle K and the Kiwanis Family had changed the course of his life. He gave us a good perspective of how trying new things can be really good and possibly change our lives for the better. Later that night we got to relax at the talent show where we put in a good effort in a comical skit highlighted with an interpretive dance performed by Melissa and Allison. Unfortunately, we didn’t win. On our last morning, the conference came to a close for us with a meeting where voting occured and candidates stepped into their various roles. The only one we had to worry about was the new governor, and we thought both candidates would be good at the job. The winner ended up being Jill McCamey. After a few good-byes and an eventful weekend, we made our way back to good ol’ Green Bay.
