Commencement Checklist for Graduates

  • Review the Registrar's webpage for graduation requirements.
  • Apply for Graduation and sign up for the commencement ceremony through the Student Information System (SIS). Early graduation application is strongly encouraged and will ensure that all graduation communications are received (graduation check, commenencement info, etc.). Students may still apply for graduation after the dates below; however, some communications may be missed. There are four graduation application time spans:
    • Fall graduation application deadline (classes end in December) is May 1.
    • January Interim graduation deadline (classes end in January) is May 1.
    • Spring graduation application deadline (classes end in May) is December 1.
    • Summer graduation application deadline (classes end in July or August) is February 1.
    • In order for your name to appear in the printed commencement program, you must apply for graduation at least four weeks prior to the commencement ceremony.
    • Ceremony participation signup deadline is midnight on the 9th day prior to the ceremony.
  • Review the ceremony details for the ceremony that you signed up for. If you expect to earn your degree in May or August, you will participate in the spring/summer ceremony. If you expect to earn your degree in December or January, you will participate in the fall/winter ceremony. These ceremonies are quite different, so be sure you are looking at the appropriate information.
  • Purchase your cap and gown.
  • Pick up honor cords if you are graduating with honors.
  • Pick up tickets to the ceremony for your guests.
  • Check the commencement ceremony Facebook page for updates and photos.
  • Tell UWGB faculty or staff who have made a difference in your academic success how much you appreciate them by completing the Commendations Survey (will be sent via email) and our staff will make sure they get it.
  • Let people know you are graduating with announcements and invitations.
  • On Twitter? Share your excitement, congratulations, or words of wisdom by adding the #gbgrad hashtag to your tweets.
