What is the Common Theme? The Common Theme is a yearlong program to engage the campus and community in the ideals of a liberal arts education and the UW-Green Bay interdisciplinary mission. It is designed to encourage faculty, staff, students, and community members to focus on a general theme from multiple perspectives and have a shared experience with open discussion and critical thinking. The Common Theme: THE LEADERSHIP QUESTIONWhat is leadership? Leading is about facilitating a group toward the accomplishment of a shared goal. Committed and engaged partners (also known as followers) are essential to this process. This powerful relationship isn’t easy to achieve—it requires on-going learning and practice. For the 2010-11 academic year, the campus community will explore multiple perspectives of “The Leadership Question.” |

LEADERSHIP READINGSoul of a Citizen: Living With Conviction in Challenging Times
Soul of a Citizen explores what leads some people to get involved in larger community issues while others feel overwhelmed or uncertain; what it takes to maintain commitment for the long haul; and how community involvement and citizen activism can give back a sense of connection and purpose rare in purely personal life. “Soul of a Citizen has inspired countless students, faculty, and other readers since its publication a decade ago,” wrote Thomas Ehrlich, former Indiana University president. “Amazing as that book was, this new version [March 2010] is even wiser, deeper, and more inspiring.” PERSONAL LEADERSHIP ASSESSMENTOffice of Student Life, University UnionStudent Life offers students the opportunity to participate in individual leadership assessments using either StrengthsQuest or the Leadership Practices Inventory.
