Background:
For Computer Science, Discrete Mathemathics I & II are taught by Forrest Baulieu. In the fall semester of 2001, however, he'll have the course Theory of Algorithms to fill the vacancy of Bruce Mielke's retirement. Forrest will illustrate that Mathematics ties together with Computer Science theory. These Mathematics courses are essential in your early college years before moving to advanced CS courses. His strength is in challenging students to solve complex problems and pushing people to their utmost potential as problem-solvers. You'll find yourself using his office hours a lot to sit down and crank out problems (crank is his favorite word btw). He's happy to help out when you run into a stumbling block on a problem. This happens quite often so don't feel bad! His courses are challenging but are rewarding at the same time for your CS career. You won't look at math problems quite the same after you have Forrest Baulieu as your professor.
