Vertical Titles in Excel


The following graphic shows a table of data in an Excel worksheet with a vertical title rather than a title above the table.

Follow these steps to create the vertical title:

Enter your title in a cell within the column to the immediate left of your data. Select the cell that contains your title text as well as the surrounding cells above and /or below that you want your title to span. (Note: You should only be selecting cells within the column that will contain the title, as shown in the green shaded area in the example below.) On the Format menu, click Cells, (alternatively you can right-click and select Format Cells as shown below.)

From the Format Cells window, click the Alignment tab.
In the degrees text box, enter 90. Select the Merge cells text box and click OK.
