GBShare now has a new and enhanced Web user interface. Faculty, staff and students using GBShare will see an easier-to-read layout; new tabs for files, tasks & tools; and more comprehensive online help documentation.

Enhancements to the Web interface include a simplified display of information. With a new customizable view, individuals can modify the file information that is displayed. For example, columns in the main listing can be added or removed, and then rearranged via “drag and drop”. In addition, the order of displayed folders and files can be changed by clicking on headings to sort the listing by the corresponding column attribute.
Recovery of deleted files and folders sent to the Trash folder is now easier. You can simply right-click on the item in the Trash folder and select the “Restore” option. When files are restored, file properties including permissions and versioning are retained.
Other Web-familiar capabilities are integrated into the new GBShare, including the ability to right-click on a folder or file to display a menu of GBShare options. “Breadcrumbs” appear at the top of the Web page to clearly show the path to your current location. In addition, there is a “Favorites” list to access frequently-used files or folders under the Gold Star.

Another enhancement is that commonly-used functions are simplified in the new GBShare. Wizards now walk you through the steps necessary to create a new folder, share files or folders with others, and establish permissions to your documents and folders. Setting file permissions on folders and files is more straightforward with commonly-granted permissions bundled as a unit. An example of the steps followed in the Wizard to create a new folder is shown below.

Advanced upload functions now allow you to select a set of documents or folders and then drag and drop them to an advanced upload function for automatic transfer to GBShare.

An enhanced search function now provides a wider array of search options, such as tags, date created, etc. to narrow the scope when searching for a file or folder. Tagging, which provides an identifier of common characteristics among documents and folders, adds properties (such as creation date, type of document) and key words to files and folders.

Individuals can now add comments to a document. The “comment thread” shows all comments for a particular document and is helpful when documents are shared for review.
Dropbox folders can be set up for a specific period of time to allow a defined set of users to “drop” their files into a GBShare folder without the ability to modify or remove the content once it has been added. For example, an instructor could set up a dropbox for submission of final papers by students.
