Additional Features in Internet Explorer 7


Internet Explorer 7 includes utilities that can help you analyze, share, and save web site content.

Internet Explorer 7 lets you view a web page's source code (e.g., HTML, CSS) from the PAGE button. This is the original code used to design the page.

  1. From the Command bar, click PAGEPage button» select View Source
    Microsoft Notepad opens, displaying the current web page's source HTML code.

  2. To close Notepad, click CLOSEClose button

If you locate a web page that you want to share with someone, you can email either a link to the page or the page itself.

NOTE: You must have a Microsoft Outlook email profile set up on the current computer to use this option.

  1. From the Command bar, click PAGEPage button» select Send Page by E-mail or Send Link by E-mail
    A new Outlook email message appears, displaying either the page or the link.

  2. In the To text box, type the email address(s) you want to send the page to

  3. Click SEND

Internet Explorer lets you save web pages in various formats, depending on how much of the content you want to keep.

  1. Navigate to the web page you want to save

  2. From the Command bar, click PAGEPage button» select Save As...
    The Save Web page dialog box opens.

  3. From the Save in pull-down list, select a storage location

  4. In the File name text box, type an appropriate name for the file

  5. From the Save as type pull-down list, select the appropriate file type

Web page, complete (*.htm, *.html)
Saves the page as an HTML document; also saves a folder containing any graphics and style sheets the page uses.

Web Archive, single file (*.mht)
Saves the page, including graphics and formatting, in a single .mht file. This format is useful for offline viewing.

Web Page, HTML Only (*.htm, *.html)
Saves the page as an HTML document without any of the graphics or style sheets the page uses.
NOTE: Because no graphics or style sheets are saved in this format, the file may display differently from the original web page.

Text File (*.txt)
Saves the text on the page as a simple text file, with no graphics or formatting. Opens in a basic text editor (e.g., Microsoft Notepad).

  1. Click SAVE

You can view technical information about any Web image from the Properties dialog box. Image properties include filename, Web address (i.e., URL), file type (e.g., .jpeg, .gif), file size, and file dimensions.

  1. Right click the image » select Properties
    The Properties dialog box appears.

  2. To close the Properties dialog box, click CLOSEClose button

Copyrighted images cannot be re-published without permission from the copyright holder. Whenever you save images from a web site, be sure to review the site's permissions guidelines. If there are no permissions guidelines, you should contact the webmaster before re-publishing an image.

  1. Right click the image you want to save
    A Quick menu appears.

  2. Select Save Picture As...
    The Save Picture dialog box appears.

  3. From the Save in pull-down list, select where you want your file to be saved

  4. In the File name text box, type an appropriate name for the file

  5. Click SAVE
