Toner is Smearing Printouts - Black vs Registration

When you select the color black in Quark & Adobe applications, make certain you have chosen the color option named “black” - NOT the color option named “registration”.

"Registration' calls for too much toner for the laser printers in the SA lab and the GAC lab to handle and the toner will smear. CIT will not reimburse you for smeared black toner if you made the “registration” color selection. Please DO NOT use the “registration” color choice in the color palette.

  1. Black. This is your pure black, that is, it is made of 100% black toner and 0% cyan, magenta or yellow toner. This color is also write protected in InDesign (cannot be modified)

  2. Registration. The color “registration” prints 4 layers of color at 100% cyan, 100% magenta, 100% yellow and 100% black. It's called this because it is used to print the registration marks, which are those marks that the printer uses to align the 4 plates once your job is on press.
