Password - Key Chain errors


Symptoms

Web browser repeatedly calls for the user to enter their password but does NOT accept their CURRENT password.

Cause

Synchronization is lost between a new password and older passwords within the macintosh environment.

Resolution

If the user remembers the old password, you can attemp to reset the password. Follow these steps:

  1. From a Finder Window, open Applications, Utilities - Open Keychain Access

  2. Go to Edit - Change Password for Keychain "login"...
  3. Enter the user's old network password as the Current Password, and the current network password as the New Password and Verify . If this give an error, follow the steps below for deleting and recreating the keychain.

 

If the user doesn't remember their old password or if it doesn't accept the old password they had the user needs to delete their login "key chain" and recreate. Follow this steps:

  1. From a Finder Window, open Applications, Utilities - Open Keychain Access


  2. Click on the 'Show Keychains' button at the lower left of the Keychain Access window:



  3. Highlight the "login" keychain from the list; then select File, Delete Keychain "login".


  4. Select Delete References and Keychains.



    The Login Keychain is now deleted and you can Quit the Keychain Access application.

  5. Open Safari. Select "Reset to Defaults" when prompted that a keychain cannot be found. Finally select Yes to reset the keychain environment.





    Enter your password. This will recreate the login keychain.
