Using Windows to Mount or Dismount a Network Share on a Campus Owned Machine


Note: To connect to a share on your personal computer from your home or residence hall see our webdav documentation.


Follow these steps to Mount a Network Share:

  • Select My Computer from the Windows desktop.
  • Then inside My Computer select Tools from the menu bar, and click on Map Network Drive.

  • From the Map Network Drive window, select the Drive pull down menu and select an open drive such as M, Nor O.

  • In the Folder pull down menu type \\fpsb\, then the first letter of you last name followed by a backslash, and then your username (First four letters of your last name, first and middle initial, and date of birth.)
  • EXAMPLE: \\fpsb\s\smitje17

Example of mapping a student's personal share.

  • If you you choose the Reconnect at logon option, this drive with be mounted each time you log in on campus.
  • Click Finish. You will now be asked to enter you network password, then click OK. Your newly mounted share will be listed in My Computer with the other network drives, and will be open on your screen.
  • You may now close the My Computer window if you do not need it.

Follow these steps to Dismount a Network Share.

  • Select My Computer from the Windows desktop.
  • In the Network Drives section, right click on the share that you want to dismount. Select Disconnect from this pull down menu.

  • This share is now removed from the list, and disconnected from you computer.
  • You may now close the My Computer window if you do not need it.
