iPhone Mail: UWGB Account Setup

iphone

The iPhone Mail program is a rich HTML email client that retrieves your email in the background while you do others things on your iPhone and iPod Touch. iPhone and iPod Touch work with the most popular email systems — including Yahoo! Mail, Gmail, AOL, and .Mac Mail — as well as most industry-standard POP3 and IMAP email systems. Mail lets you send and receive photos and graphics, which are displayed in your messages along with the text.

Instructions for connecting the iPhone 2.0 to UWGB email.

With the release of iPhone 2.0 and the iPhone 3G, the iPhone is now capable of connecting directly to the campus email system and giving a very rich experience much like Windows Mobile and Palm users are used to.

Important: While it is possible to maintain multiple calendars, it is strongly recommended a backup is done before following the procedures below. Additionally, iTunes no longer syncs contacts and calendars with your desktop computer with Activesync enabled. You can still sync your device wirelessly with MobileMe services.

Manual Configuration

  1. To add your campus email account to your iPhone, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and then tap Add Account.
  2. On the Add Account screen, tap Microsoft Exchange.
  3. Enter the email server webmail.uwgb.edu.
  4. Enter your campus email address as username@uwgb.edu (i.e. kretchep@uwgb.edu)
  5. Enter your campus username as uwgreenbay\username (I.e. uwgreenbay\kretchep)
  6. Enter your account password.
  7. Enter a description of “UW-Green Bay OWA via Activesync”.
  8. Tap Next.
  9. Accept the certificate.
  10. Tap Save.

After your campus email account is successfully configured, the server’s password policies are enforced. If your current password doesn’t comply with the Exchange Activesync policies, you will be prompted to change or set your password. The device won’t communicate with the campus email (Exchange) server until you set a compliant password. Next, the device offers to immediately sync with the campus Exchange server. If you choose not to sync at this time, you can turn on calendar and contact syncing later in Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. By default, Exchange Activesync pushes new data to your device as it arrives on the server. If you prefer to fetch new data on a schedule or to pull new data manually, use Settings > Fetch New Data to change the settings.

To change how many days of data is synced to your device, go to Settings >Mail, Contacts, and Calendars. The default setting is three days.
