Outlook XP\2003 - Remote Setup


Before you proceed with the following instructions, you must have Outlook XP or 2003 installed on your computer.

NOTE: you must be connected to the Internet through your Internet Service Provider before proceeding.

1. Click on the Start menu, and open the Control Panel (NOTE: it may be listed under "Settings").

2. If your Control Panel is in "Category View", you will need to change to "Classic View".

3. After you change the view, double click on the Mail icon.

4. Select "Email Accounts..."

5. Under the E-mail heading, choose "Add a new e-mail account". You do not need to select anything under the Directory heading. Now, click "Next".

6. On the "Server Type" screen, select the first option called "Microsoft Exchange Server", and click "Next".

7. The Microsoft Exchange Server name to type in is exmsa.uwgb.edu (Note: uncheck "Use Cached Exchange Mode"). Click on More Settings.

Type in your username (for example:kretpl19 or theyerlp). If you would like to make sure you entered your username in correctly, you can select "Check Name". If the username is correct, your name will appear underlined, as seen below (NOTE: exmsa.uwgb.edu might be re-routed to a different server name {exmsb.uwgb.edu or exmsc.uwgb.eu}depending on if you are a student or staff, this is normal).

8. Click on More Settings. *You may have to enter your user name and password to authenticate to the uwgb network. (see the image in Step 12)

Select the Connection tab when the window below appears. Check the box to "Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP". Click on Exchange Proxy Settings....

9. Now add the Exchange Proxy Settings. Change your settings to match both the url and the check boxes in the example below:

10. Click OK. Select OK again to close the Exchange window. Outlook has been configured for your UWGB email account.

11. After you configure Outlook, you may receive the following message. Click on "Yes".

12. Next, open Outlook. You will be prompted to type in your UWGB account information. Use the following example to enter your username: uwgreenbay\username. Be sure to use a back slash "\" NOT a forward slash "/" (for example: uwgreenbay\theyerlp or uwgreenbay\wheeaa23).

13. After Outlook opens, go to "Tools" and then "E-mail Accounts".

14. Under the E-mail heading, select "View or change existing e-mail accounts", and then "Next" (NOTE: Again there is no need to select an option under the Directory heading)

15. On the Email Accounts screen, select "Microsoft Exchange Server" to work with the new mailbox you just setup.

16. Next, choose a location for your new emails to be delivered to. To do this, simply use the drop down box at the bottom of the screen, and change your default folder to "Mailbox- LastName, FirstName". We do this because it will leave the e-mail messages on the Exchange server so you will still have access to those messages when you are logged into the UWGB network.

17. Click "Finish". You have successfully setup the Outlook configuration and should now be able to access your UWGB e-mail account using Outlook on your home computer.
