AutoStart your PowerPoint presentation

Scenario: You've created a terrific presentation, but because it took two minutes to start PowerPoint, open the file, and finally click on "Slide Show", you feel you've "fumbled" your entry! You haven't even started the presentation and a few people have that look of impatience.

Next time, try one of these methods to skip the fumbling and launch directly to the 'Slide Show' view.

1. Save the presentation as a slide show file.

Select Save As from the File Menu
In the Save as type list, click PowerPoint Show. This changes the file's extension to "pps".

Save As PowerPoint Show (*.pps).
Shortcut to show.

Simply put a shortcut of this file on your desktop, and in one double-click step, you can launch the slide show. When you're finished with the presentation, PowerPoint will close and you'll return to the desktop.

You can always edit the document by opening PowerPoint and opening the pps document just like a normal PowerPoint file.

Want to take a break mid-way through your presentation? To display a blank (black) screen, tap the B key. Tap the B key again (or the Enter key) to return to the PowerPoint show.

2. Open the presentation using Windows Explorer.

Forgot to save the file as a PowerPoint show? Launch your standard PowerPoint (ppt) file directly to a slide show by right-clicking the file in Windows Explorer and choosing "Show".

Lauch as Show.

Another quick fix: Simply rename the file to change the extension from ppt to pps in Windows Explorer. Now just double-click the file to launch the show.
