Faculty can incorporate computer technology into their instruction using one of the many technology classrooms on campus. These classrooms are equipped with computers, LCD projectors, VCRs, slide projectors, document cameras, and traditional overheads. Some have additional equipment as well. In Mary Ann Cofrin Hall, AMX touch-screen controls are used to operate the equipment, room lighting, sound, and ceiling blinds. Other classrooms have the Unibar software-based control system. All of the technology classrooms have new Gateway PCs running Windows except for SA 350 and SA 411, which have Macintoshes running OS 10.4.
Windows PCs in the technology classrooms are set up with the same configuration that is used in the student general access labs. Thus all special instructional software used by faculty in our labs is available on these machines. In addition, all faculty accounts have local administrative rights on these machines so that instructors may install software. (Student accounts do not have installation rights.) Keep in mind that special software must be reinstalled prior to fall semester since computers in the tech classrooms are replaced every summer with the newest models.
In order to better service these machines and monitor licensing, CIT asks that all faculty and instructors register with CIT any software that they will be installing. In this way, we can ensure that unnecessary and even problematic software is not cluttering these machines. Contact Mark Roe (x2590 or roem@uwgb.edu) to register software and report any problems.
Media Services maintains a permanent classroom equipment list that includes all technology classrooms and computer labs.
