Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD's)
Are you at risk? If you've ever had sex, the answer is YES. Young
or old, rich or poor, married or single, gay or straight - STDs can affect
anyone. One in four Americans will have an STD at some time
in their lives. If STDs are left untreated, STDs can cause sterility
and life-threatening disease. Having an STD puts you at increased risk for
contracting HIV.
Ways you can reduce your risk for STDs:
- Abstain from oral, rectal, vaginal intercourse.
- Open and honest communication with your partner.
- Use a new latex condom for each sex act. Use a dental dam or plastic wrap (not microwaveable) for oral sex.
- Have one partner, who is not infected and is only having sex with you.
