It is the recommendation of The World Health Organization
(WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC), Federal, State and Local Health
Departments that health care facilities increase their surveillance of
upper respiratory symptoms which should include questioning and documentation
of travel and disease exposure risks.
Currently, at UW-Green Bay the Counseling and Health Center is engaged
in Avian Flu Pandemic Planning in the following ways:
- The Director of Health Service is a member of numerous communication and
resource networks involved with communicable disease control and pandemic
planning. These resources include: WHO, CDC, State and Local Health Departments.
o These resources are referred to daily for information and disease surveillance
updates.
- The Director of Health Service is a member of the Brown County Infectious
Disease Group which meets monthly to review communicable disease issues
specific to the area and to plan for how to manage communicable disease
issues that may impact the area.
- The Director of Health Service is a member of the UW-Green Campus Emergency
Response planning team. Discussions have already taken place on how to
expand the current policy and procedure on communicable disease control
to include the entities of isolation and quarantine and the issues that
these would create.
- The Director of Health Service is working with the Director of International
Education to:
- Provide information on disease prevention for University Traveler Groups
and Study Abroad Students.
- Develop policies and procedures for screening returning travelers.
- Develop policies and procedures for screening Visiting Scholars.
- UW-Green Bay Health Service Staff are expected to keep their knowledge
of communicable disease current and have access to the latest CDC and State
communicable disease control guidelines. This includes staff in-service
and training as appropriate and as new issues arise.
- UW-Green Bay Health Service Staff follow established policies and procedures
for communicable disease control which includes active ongoing surveillance
of disease symptomology and exposure risks. This surveillance includes:
- Questioning symptomatic persons regarding travel and exposure risks according
to suspected illness.
- Implementing policies and procedures to screen travelers from areas of
risk.
- Implementing policies and procedures for screening, upon their return from
areas of disease risk, persons who participate in University related travel.
- Implementing policies and procedures for screening Visiting Scholars. For
