Major / Minor: Business Admin with an emphasis in Management & Human Development
Organization: Sherwin Williams
Job Title: Assistant Manager

Why did you choose to go into your program of study?

I chose this major because it was something that I could use in the future that had a lot of broad options. While going to school, I wasn't 100% sure of what I wanted to do with my life. Choosing Business Admin was something I know I could use in multiple different ways in the future. Human Development turned into a major because I was only a few classes away from completing it as a major. Human Development interested me because it paired well with Business knowing you would have a background in why people act the way they do.

When you began at UW-Green Bay, what did you expect for your future?

I had a bit of a different take on school. I chose UW-Green Bay because I had the opportunity to play volleyball. When I went into school, I didn't really think about the school part of things. While being in school I found out that I had a great opportunity at UW-Green Bay. It was a great education with great class sizes where you can actually learn something.

Did you have a job/internship in your field while going to college that helped spark your interest?

While going to school, I had multiple opportunities. One of my internships that helped me out was with Frito Lay. This internship gave me the option of seeing all portions of how a business is run. It allowed me to see how a business works literally from the ground up. Another opportunity I had was with Linda Peacock-Landrum. She helped me to see that I wanted to work with people in a customer service setting. I enjoyed working closely with her on the Jobs for WI Grads portion of the offices. It gave me an edge of communicating with employers from all around the state.

What were you involved in while a student at UW-Green Bay?

While at UW-Green Bay, I was not involved in too many things due to being involved in athletics. I was on the volleyball team for 5 years, and that was something that kept me busy enough.

Where are you currently employed? Please describe your position.

I am currently employed at as an Assistant Manager with Sherwin Williams in the Milwaukee area. I manage store operations, work with contractors and customers and supervise staff.

How do you keep in contact with other alumni?

Keeping in contact with other alumni is usually through text messaging or Facebook.

What advice would you have for a student wanting to enter your field?

I would have to let students know that the beginning of the Business Admin program were my toughest years in school. They had the base classes that you needed to move onto the upper level courses that are more real life to what you might do in the business field. As long as you are willing to work hard to do well you will do fine. Do not be afraid to ask for help when it comes to your accounting and statistic classes. These classes were tough for me because I was not a numbers person.

Can we share your e-mail address on our website/can career services give it out to students inquiring about a job in your place of employment/field?
