Students with Disabilities Policy

Consistent with the federal law and the policies of the University of Wisconsin, it is the policy of the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay to provide appropriate and necessary accommodations to students with documented physical and learning disabilities.  If you anticipate requiring any auxiliary aides or services, you should contact me or the Coordinator of Services for Students with Disabilities at 465-2671 as soon as possible to discuss your needs and arrange for the provision of services.

Required Text and Materials

Aliaga & Gunderson: Interactive Statistics, Prentice Hall Publishing, Third Edition.

Graphing Calculator: TI-83 plus (or TI-83).

Recommended Texts

Dretzke: Statistics with Microsoft Excel, Prentice Hall Publishing,  Third Edition.

Homework

Weekly homework problems will be assigned from the textbook. These assignments will not be graded but should be used to prepare for quizzes and tests. Questions about homework solutions will be answered at the beginning of each class.

Group Quizzes

There will be twelve group quizzes (Open Book) during the course, usually on Thursdays. These quizzes will be worked on by groups of three students and will normally be based on one problem in the text. Students will work together within groups but not between groups. Group quizzes will be handed in during class and the solutions will be provided immediately. There are NO makeup group quizzes; however, the worst two grades will be dropped.

Regular Quizzes

Short weekly quizzes (Closed Book) on current course material will be given in class, usually on Tuesdays. Each regular quiz will be announced in the previous class. Unlike the group quizzes, regular quizzes are worked on individually be each student. Solutions will be provided in the next class. There are NO makeup regular quizzes; however, the worst two grades will be dropped.  No quizzes will be given during weeks when a test is scheduled.

Test and Exam Schedule

There will be two in class tests during the semester:

Test #1:

Tuesday, February 27

Test #2:

Tuesday, April 10

The Final Exam has been scheduled by the Registrar:

Final Exam:

 Tuesday, May 15, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Note: All exams and tests are closed book. For exams, an 8.5 x 11 page with your own notes will be allowed, one-side for tests, two-sides for the Final Exam. There will be  NO makeup exams or tests, so make sure you have these dates and times open. You must take the final exam to pass this course.

Grading Scheme

Group Quizzes: 15
Regular Quizzes: 25
Tests: 30
Final Exam: 30
Total: 100 points

Your grade will be assigned as follows based on your percentage of points received:

90 and up = A [87, 90) = AB
[80, 87) = B [77, 80) = BC
[70, 77) = C [67, 70) = CD
[55, 67) = D Below 55 = F

For example: if you receive 13 for Group Quizzes, 23 for Regular Quizzes, 28 for Tests and 23 for the Final; you have a total of 87 points for 87/100 => 87%. Your final grade is AB.

Policy on Academic Honesty

The university has a responsibility to promote academic honesty and integrity and to develop procedures to deal effectively with instances of academic dishonesty. Students are responsible for the honest completion and representation of their work and for respect of others' academic endeavors. Students who violate these standards must be confronted and must accept the consequences of their actions. See http://www.uwgb.edu/deanofstudents/policies/ch14.htm for more information.
