Biology 311 – Plant Physiology (4 credits)
Past Syllabus: Fall 2007
Course content: General physiology of vascular plants within the context of a plant life cycle: seed dormancy and germination, metabolism, transport systems, mineral nutrition, patterns of plant growth and development, growth regulators, reproduction and senescence. Includes laboratories.
Prerequisites: Biology 202 with at least a C grade and Biology 203 with at least a C grade, or transfer course Biology 003; and Chem 212.

Environmental Science 102 – Introduction to Environmental Science (3 credits)

Course content: Examines the interrelationships between people and their biophysical environment, including the atmosphere, water, rocks and soil, and other living organisms. The scientific analysis of nature and the social and political issues of natural resource use.

Environmental Science 499 – Tropical Conservation & Ecology in Costa Rica (2 credits)
Past Syllabus: Winter 2007-2008
Course content: Students are immersed for two weeks in the tropical ecosystems of Costa Rica to gain firsthand experience with tropical ecology and the challenges facing conservation in a developing country. Course topics take a system’s approach, exposing students to a wide range of biological, geological, and socioeconomic issues related to Costa Rican ecology and conservation. Spanish language skills not required.
Prerequisites: Completion of, or fall semester enrollment in, either BIO 203 or ENV SCI 102, or instructor permission.
Periodicity: Offered every winter with sufficient enrollment
