Providing Accommodations
UW-Green Bay provides reasonable accommodations that are individualized,
flexible and based on the nature of the disability and the academic
environment. Accommodations assure that students have an equal opportunity
to participate in all University programs, services and activities. The
purpose of accommodations is not to ensure success, but to provide access
and equal opportunity. Please remember that the student’s disability
status is confidential.
Documentation of disability.
Disability Services requires professional,
written documentation from a student before accommodations are provided.
This documentation is confidential and will be released to UW-Green Bay faculty
and staff on a need-to-know basis with consent of the student.
Accommodating Students.
Students bring a unique set of strengths and experiences to college, and
students with disabilities are no exception. While many learn in different
ways, their differences do not imply inferior capacities. There is no need to
dilute curriculum or to reduce course requirements for students with
disabilities. Accommodations for students with disabilities must not
fundamentally alter a program, service, or activity.
However, accommodations must be made to ensure that a qualified student with
a disability has equal access to learning opportunities. This principle applies
to teaching strategies as well as institutional and departmental policies.
The following is a list of common academic accommodations, for more information on these accommodations, please visit the Handbook section of our site.
