Description
Disability Services Office has paid notetakers to provide class notes for students who, because of their disability, are unable to take class notes themselves. Announcements are made for the paid note taker position. The CDS and AMDS hires and monitors the notetakers. The notetakers are to stop by the DS office at least twice a week to have their notes photocopied. Photocopying is done immediately by the notetakers or staff at no expense to the student. The notes are placed in a labeled folder for the student with a disability to pick up at his/her convenience.

Policies
  1. Students are responsible for contacting the CDS or AMDS each semester to identify which classes a notetaker will be needed.

  2. Only one set of class notes per class for each student with a disability will be provided.

  3. Notes will not be typed for students except by special arrangement with the CDS.

Procedures
  1. Student needs to be registered with the Disability Services Office.
  2. Student meets with the CDS or AMDS each semester after they have attended class and received a class syllabus. CDS or AMDS fills out accommodation form for student to give to each of their instructors.
  3. Student hand delivers the accommodations form to each instructor.
  4. The course instructor announces notetaking position in each class.
  5. The DS staff meets with notetaker to give instructions and hires the notetaker. The note taker is to stop in the DS Office at least twice a week to have the notes be copied.
  6. The student notetaker copies the notes, places the notes in labeled file folder, and records the copies on the contact sheet in the folder.
  7. The student picks up the notes at his/her convenience during regular weekday office hours (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.).
  8. It is the student’s responsibility to let the DS staff know if the notes are not provided on a weekly basis. The paid note taker will be warned and if needed another note taker will be found.
  9. Students are encouraged to use tape recorders whenever possible to supplement the class notes.
  10. Please let the office know as soon as possible if you drop a class or do not need notes for a particular class.

Notice: If notes are not picked up in a two-week time period, your notes will be pulled from your file. To continue services you will need to set up an appointment with Coordinator of Disability Services.
