Devil's Postpile is a small lava flow a few million years old. As the flow cooled, it shrank and broke up into neat columns. This view shows the top of the columns, arranged in a neat honeycomb pattern. The rock has been smoothed off by glaciers, and the lines running away from the picture were made by pebbles trapped in the ice.
