When a tilted layer of rock resists erosion and forms a ridge, it is called a hogback. This hogback is not far west of Devil's Gap, Wyoming. A layer of limestone forms the crest of the ridge. In humid climates limestone dissolves easily but in dry climates it resists erosion.
