Back of beyond. Quarai was located at the eastern foot of the Manzano Mountains, where snow melt provided water.

Kiva-like structure. The location of these within a mission is puzzling.  
Below: Buffalo Gourd. Supposedly edible when young but not when fully grown.The scientific name, Cucurbita foetidissima, pretty much spells it out.
