0074D - Frameworks for Comprehensive Literacy (Grades K-5)

Course Description:

This three-credit course is designed for grades K-5 classroom teachers, administrators, or literacy coaches. The course contains foundational information and practical applications for K-5 classrooms: research basis and definitions of comprehensive literacy, formal and informal assessment, ELA Common Core Standards and standards-based lessons, essential components of a comprehensive literacy program in grades K-5, and instructional formats (i.e. Workshop model) for improving student achievement in an English Language Arts Literacy Block.

Required Readings: One core text and one companion text are required. Each participant is responsible for obtaining these required books independently, prior to the first class. Please refer to the course syllabus for information about the required readings. Before purchasing the required readings, please confirm with the CESA 7 office following the registration deadline, to be sure there is sufficient enrollment to proceed with running the course.
