Course Description:

Would you like to be a cooperating teacher? This course/workshop is intended to help practicing teachers gain the knowledge and experience in the skills and procedures necessary for the effective supervision of student teachers and interns. Both the credit course and the noncredit workshop meet the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction provisions relating to cooperating teachers. The skills and procedures included are planning, orientation, communication, supervision, and evaluation. Information about PI 34 (the teacher licensing law that became effective August 31, 2004) will also be reviewed.

One Graduate Credit ($325)


This option will provide you with in-depth training, including information about teaching and learning styles, training on conferencing techniques to utilize with your student teacher, and guidance from expert educator Helen Schaal as you develop your student teacher handbook!
  • Course Number: ED & HUD 795-2, section 7406 (#0913C)

  • Prerequisite: Graduate Standing (Must have earned a bachelor’s degree)

  • Schedule: Saturday, January 21 (8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.); and Fridays, February 3 and February 24, 2012 (4:30-8:00 p.m.)

  • Teacher Standards # 4, 5, 9

Noncredit Enrollment Option A -- 5-hour workshop ($75)

Note: This is the minimum training required for requesting a UWGB student teacher.

  • Schedule: Saturday, January 21 (8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m.).

  • Teacher Standards # 4, 5

Noncredit Enrollment Option B -- 15-hour workshop ($225)

This 15-hour noncredit option follows the same course schedule for the credit option. This option will provide you with in-depth training, including information about teaching and learning styles, training on conferencing techniques to utilize with your student teacher, and guidance from expert educator Helen Schaal as you develop your student teacher handbook!
