Open to educators employed with the Pulaski Community School District

Course Description:

The Pulaski Community School District’s Red Raider Learning Academy includes a week-long experience in Summer 2012, followed by two 2-hour reflection learning reunions and engagement in action research, data collection, and program evaluation during the 2012-2013 school year. Course work will conclude on March 30, 2013.

Educators from the Pulaski Community School District who are participating in one of the following academy weeks in June should enroll in this section: June 11-15, June 18-22, or June 25-29, 2012.

  • We believe people learn by discussion, actively participating, sharing, and working with each other - the social dimension of learning.

  • Building blocks of the Red Raider Learning Academy include (these strands will be components of each day in the academy):

    • Building community

    • Developing a vision for professional growth -- Creation of Collaborative Learning Experience (CLE) tied to yearly professional goals and action plans

    • Engaging in best practice and research for positive educational change

    • Promoting leadership and becoming reflective practitioners

    • Utilizing technology to support the learning process
  • We will promote different ways of thinking while giving exploratory and discovery time so each individual can design his/her learning environment following the learning process.

  • We will ask you to be a reflective practitioner (time built into the day for reflecting). All learning activities are applicable to your classroom, your school, and your community.

  • We will use a strengths based approach to learning, and it is everyone’s job to help each other succeed in this course. Our activities promote a sense of community and community building. We want you to know that you are not alone in our search for improvement, development, and change. There is no competition. There is an abundance of collaboration!

  • Facilitators will model best practices and also ask you to share your best practices.

  • Prerequisite: Graduate Standing (Must have earned a bachelor’s degree); participants must be employed with the Pulaski Community School District.
