Hein, Julie

Julie is a biologist and licensed educator with a rich background in research and professional experiences. She is the founder of Lake Ledge Naturalist, LLC, a design and consulting firm that provides support in science education, interpretative services, accessibility and audio description to parks, museums, schools and historical sites. Julie also currently serves as an adjunct instructor at UW- Green Bay, a contractor for the National Park Service and Director of Interpretation and Outreach for the Forest Exploration Center in Milwaukee. Prior to her current work, she has served as a research biologist for Sweet Briar College in Virginia, as a biology teacher for the Kewaunee School District, an instructor of biology at UW-Stevens Point, a consultant for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and has worked for the Wisconsin DNR in the divisions of Fisheries, Ground Water and Parks. Julie’s research interests include the study of monarch butterfly population dynamics, nectar resources and abundance and the expansion of scientific literacy through experiential learning and citizen science projects. Her main professional objective is to develop and provide immersive experiences that inspire active citizenship and foster critical thinking skills in all ages and abilities.
