Julie is a certified teacher and a biologist with a rich background in research and professional experiences. She is the founder of Lake Ledge Naturalist, LLC, where she provides educational and interpretive outreach services. Julie also currently serves as an education consultant for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) and as an interpretive consultant for the Forest Exploration Center in Milwaukee. Prior to her current work, she has served as director of outreach for the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership in Door County, as a research biologist for Sweet Briar College in Virginia, as a biology teacher for the Kewaunee School District, as an instructor of biology for UW-Stevens Point, as an education consultant for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and as a drinking and groundwater specialist, educator, and naturalist for the Wisconsin DNR. Julie’s research interests include the study of monarch butterfly population dynamics and the expansion of scientific literacy through experiential learning and citizen science projects. Her main professional objective is to develop immersive experiences that inspire active citizenship and foster critical thinking skills in all ages and abilities.
