Leary, Dr. J P
Dr. J P Leary (Cherokee/Delaware) is an Assistant Professor of Humanistic Studies, First Nations Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. In his previous capacity as the American Indian Studies Consultant at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, he co-founded the American Indian Studies Summer Institute and led the event for 15 years. His primary research and interests focus on the history of education, particularly American Indian education, education policy, culturally responsive education, authentic cross-cultural education, and the creation of learning communities that reflect cultural norms and core values common among tribal communities. Dr. Leary holds a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Wisconsin Madison with concentrations in history of education and policy analysis and a minor in curriculum theory and research.
