Director's Welcome

Welcome to the Environmental Management and Business Institute or “EMBI”!

EMBI is proud to continue the legacy of environmentalism that is UW-Green Bay’s foundation. Where the focus in the late 1960’s was on the relationship between the social and physical environments, today sustainability equally considers the economic environment along with the social and physical to measure the weight of our actions.

As an alum of UW-Green Bay with both a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (’88) and a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy (’12), I understand the value of looking at problems from a broader interdisciplinary lens and it is my goal to both share my experience and the talent contained in this university with the greater community.

At EMBI, we bring together student interns, faculty, and community organizations to analyze the environmental problems faced by our partners, and seek practical, cost-effective solutions to these problems. The program advises businesses and agencies on improving their sustainable practices, which creates opportunities for students to gain insight into business issues while simultaneously exploring best practices in environmental policy. Helping businesses develop opportunities to reduce their environmental impact while increasing profitability is good for business and good for the community.

Whether you are a student interested in pursuing the Minor or Certificate in Sustainability, a community business or non-profit looking to hire a student intern or seeking faculty expertise for a research project, please contact us or stop in. We would like to be your partner.
