| Application Process |
|
The application process for new students is no different than continuing students. However, you need to
be aware of several requirements that are unique or unfamiliar to new students.
- It is recommended that you keep copies of all paperwork used for the FAFSA application.
- After submitting the FAFSA, make sure you print and review a copy of your SAR (Student Aid Report).
- Also make sure that you go back to the FAFSA home page within the next week, log in, and click on ‘View Processed Information’ to ensure that your FAFSA application was processed and has no errors or missing items.
- It is important that you monitor your campus e-mail account regularly. This is the preferred method of communication by the Financial Aid Office.
- Beginning in late March/early April, you will receive notification that your financial aid award has been packaged for the following fall/spring semesters.
- Each year, you will need to accept or decline portions of your Financial Aid Award using the Student
Info System (SIS). You will not be mailed a paper copy of your award unless you are unable to access the system.
What is Financial Aid?
Financial aid is money made available by the federal government, state government and institution. Financial
aid is awarded based on a student’s eligibility and demonstration of financial need. Money that comes from a
private source in the form of a scholarship is awarded based on a student's academic and sometimes community
achievements.
What does the Financial Aid Office do?
The Financial Aid Office assists students in applying for aid from federal and/or state government and the
institution. Financial Aid advisors are available to assist students with the application process, money
management guidance and sensible borrowing. The Financial Aid Office can also help students find either on
or off campus employment.
General Application Guidelines
To receive student financial aid, you must complete a Free
Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) every
year. File either the electronic financial aid application, FAFSA (highly recommended) or the paper FAFSA
as soon after January 1st of the upcoming academic year as possible.
- The first step in completing the online application is applying for a PIN number, which acts as your
electronic signature on the FAFSA. Both students and one parent (of dependent students) need to apply for
a PIN number. Please keep these numbers in a place where you’ll remember them- you will be using them every
year to fill out the application and will use it to sign other documents as well.
- Go to the FAFSA website and print the Pre-Application worksheets. These will make it easier to gather
all of the required documents and to organize your information before going online.
- Gather all of the documents necessary to complete the form. It is always easier and more accurate to
apply after your Federal Income Tax Forms have been completed.
- If you do not have ready access to the Internet contact the Financial Aid Office or High School guidance
for a paper FAFSA.
Please note:
- UW-Green Bay’s priority date is March 15. The priority date is not a deadline. To ensure full consideration in the various aid programs, The Financial Aid Office recommends that you complete your FAFSA application & submit all requested documentation by this date.
- A completed aid application does not, however, guarantee that all aid programs will be offered to you due to funding limitations and awarding guidelines in some aid programs.
- You must include UW-Green Bay’s school code, 003899, on your FAFSA at www.fafsa.gov
- It is important that you monitor your campus e-mail account regularly. This is the preferred method of
communication by the Financial Aid Office.
- Financial aid is awarded on an annual basis. You must reapply each academic year.
